Pixel Ellipsis was really dragging for me day before yesterday, so I went through the multitude of plugins that I had installed in my plugin-happy stage and killed a few of them. I think it’s helped with site performance, although my ISP also blocked me from accessing the site most of yesterday and part of today as well, so I’m not sure if it was just me. Let me know if the site has been excruciatingly slow for you!

On a side note, I missed Halloween and Thanksgiving while I was overseas (not that either is really celebrated here in Australia). But now that I’m back, I’m oddly addicted to Halloween scans like this one:

Clearly my raging addiction to Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is still alive and well. I also managed to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas for the first time on the plane! :)

So I was browsing around as usual and saw that Studio Ghibli is collaborating with game studio Level-5 to create a video game. The screenshots so far look terrific – full of the trademark Ghibli charm and whimsy.

On top of all this tantalizing awesomeness, the trailer looked so jawdroppingly stunning that it took me a ridiculously long time to process the fact that this is a trailer for a NINTENDO DS GAME. I mean, seriously?! Really?! I actually have a DS – hands down DO WANT!!

Studio Ghibli, I didn’t think that you could top your previous levels of awesomeness, but clearly you’ve proven me wrong yet again…

I’m a bit of a sucker for Mario videos, despite the fact that I’ve never actually played Super Mario past the first two stages – being incredibly jumping-impaired probably had something to do with it. But there’s just something so comforting and nostalgic about the franchise, which is why this YouTube video put a big smile on my face. The video was also just incredibly well done!

“A post-it stop-motion of Super Mario running wild in a school building, created by a group of Japanese students, is fast becoming a YouTube hit!”

Is this epic? Why yes, yes it is:

Katamari Bronze (from BoingBoing)

Cast by a dude for an art (sculpture) class, this is possibly one of the best homework assignments ever made by a kindred nerd.

P.S. Am rather amused by all the “I WANTS THAT” comments resounding through the internets, mostly because the artist shared that the katamari ball is heavy enough to cause some serious damage to wood if it was to fall over (apparently the katamari is NOT welded to the Prince; a design decision that I applaud). Since the bronze for the sculpture alone costs $200, this is really out of my price range. But still, I DO wants. Maybe mass production would be the answer here…

Putting aside the fact that my DS usurped my PS2′s spot in my limited attention span, and I haven’t played my DS in a while – I would’ve thought that Final Fantasy XIII would be THE game to make me finally acquire a PS3. But it’s gotten such lukewarm word on the street that I’ll be waiting for the new Kingdom Hearts game to come out before I get that PS3 :D

The theme song for FFXIII is really nice though, even though I did raise an eyebrow when I saw that it was by Leona Lewis – not a name I would’ve ever associated with Final Fantasy, and also I had pegged her for a one-hit (“Bleeding Love“) wonder. But everyone who managed to last through the game seems to agree that this song fits. So YAY FOR PRETTY MUSIC, and I’m glad that Leona came out with another good song that I can now add to my YouTube playlist \o/

I had watched this YouTube video quite a while back, but dug it up again tonight after chatting to a friend about my inability to jump in games. I had remembered this being hilariously funny – and it still is. It’s a combination of the the cursing, the accent, and the d00d’s crazy mad skills in commentating and gaming. I bow down to his leetness because if it was me, I’d die and give up trying after the first three seconds.
