I’ve been gunning through Bleach the manga. I can kind of see how this one might be more enjoyable as anime instead of manga, but my mom’s come to stay with me for a couple of months and it’s kind of weird to be like “Mom, please leave me alone. I need to watch some anime now.” Maybe it shouldn’t be weird but I don’t have that level of otaku-comfort around my parents yet. They know I’m a raging manga fan though, after finally discovering the entirety of my rather substantial manga collection for which I pinched away years of middle/high-school lunch money. This happened a couple years ago, so they’ve more or less given up nagging me about reading manga.
Anyways… On the awesome character that is Urahara…
…was anyone else utterly disappointed to discover that his eyeshadow/eyeliner thing wasn’t “real”, and that it was just his hat’s shadow?!?!

Instant drop in coolness and respect points from me. Although I still love his character, I loved him MORE when I thought he had some sort of funky Johnny Depp thing going on. Urahara looks awful without his hat anyways so it’s a good thing he will eternally be The Hat Guy. I guess Yūkyūzan Anji from Rurouni Kenshin will just have to continue as the cool eyeshadow/eyeliner guy for me… *sniff*

Haha ROFL @ hat hair. Despise is a strong word, but I know the character – props to real insomnia bags/shadows! Which reminds me… there’s also L from Death Note, but his aren’t as pronounced xD
What about Gaara from Naruto? (You probably despise the Naruto series…) Yeah, Gaara get’s his from lack of sleep, so they’re actually just really large bags/rings/panda markings. XD
Urahara actually looks younger without the shadows. Plus after centuries of that, the hat-hair must be amazing! *points*
>xD
I actually pulled up an episode of Macross Frontier just the other day because I really felt like watching it, but having mom in the background definitely brought my usual enjoyment down a few notches. Oh well ;3 There’s definitely more than enough manga to keep me occupied, thank goodness!
I did get further along in Bleach and was slightly ticked off at what happened. There were some redeeming plot points though so I’m slightly mollified. I feel like I should post more on Bleach, but right now I’m still kinda bummed by the end of the Soul Society arc and what feels like an endless string of filler-y fights until this current arc defines itself more ; D;
Okay, I happened to read your latest Bleach post which I resisted posting on because I don’t want to spoil it for you. But when I read this post I just had to comment:
“Mom, please leave me alone. I need to watch some anime now.”
You are SO CRUEL! I’m at work and when I read that it took all my self control for the WEEK to not laugh my head off! I know what you mean though. My parents know I’m a fan and everything but I am not going to just plunk down in the living room and start watching anime, not in this liftetime. I don’t enjoy nagging comments as a constant background noise k thx.
